About Us

Dr. Filippa Arcuri together with her husband, Dr. Maurizio Incorvaia and her son dott. Vito Incorvaia give continuity to the history of the Farmacia del Cinghiale.
They continue the activity of previous generations because “they are pharmacists of birth and vocation” with the addition of the holistic vision: each person is unique so it needs to be heard regardless of the allopathic, phytotherapeutic, homeopathic remedy.
In particular, D.ssa Filippa Arcuri has a “global vision towards psychophysical health” for the benefit of personal well-being with the support of Homeopathy, Floritherapy, Phytotherapy, Ayurvedic, Homotoxicology, Anthroposophy and Homeosinergia.
We have a staff of good collaborators that we are proud of because they take care of people’s requests meticulously. We specialize in galenic preparations and customized herbal products.

A PHARMACY MUSEUM

The foundation of the Pharmacy of the Boar dates back to 1500, but the first documents that testify to the existence of za date back to the first half of the eighteenth century. It owes its name to the fountain with the wild boar, called the “little pig”, bronze work of the sculptor Pietro Tacca (1612).
Even today the pharmacy is located in its original location, on the ground floor of a building already owned by the Art of Silk, then the Exchange and finally the Hospital of the Innocents.

THE FOUNDATION OF THE PHARMACY

The Florentine physician Niccolò Branchi della Torre in a text of 1752 listed a series of chemical experiments carried out in the laboratory of this Spezieria (the work, preserved in the Palatine Collection of the Central National Library, bears the significant title “Index of chemical experiences that will be shown by Nicola Branchi Doctor of Philosophy and Medicine in the current year MDCCLII in Florence in the Laboratory of the Spezieria del Cinghiale in Mercato Nuovo for the use of some associates”). Dr. Branchi in 1757 obtained from the Grand Duke Francesco Stefano di Lorena the task of opening in Pisa the first school of chemistry. The experiences of this illustrious Tuscan scientist made for the first time in the laboratory of the Pharmacy of the Wild Boar were of such fundamental resonance that the name of the Branchi came out of the circle of the pharmacy to reach that of the court of Lorraine.

A PHARMACY AS AN AVANT-GARDE CENTRE

In the nineteenth century the pharmacy also became a meeting point for illustrious intellectuals, such as the literary Aleardi, Prati, De Amicis and Fucini, the latter remembered by a plaque placed inside the restaurant. The ancient Pharmacy of the Wild Boar is counted among the oldest pharmacies.
Among the most ancient Florentine spice shops such as Moro, Canto al Diamante and Canto alle Rondini. The fame reached in the middle of the 1700’s through the first chemical experiments of which the dott. Niccolò Branchi witnessed in Florence the overcoming of the world of alchemy in favor of exact science.
The pharmacy continued to be an illustrious seat, even in the nineteenth century at the time of Florence Capital. At the time it was certainly in the hands of the apothecary Giuseppe Guadagni.
At that time it became a meeting place for writers and poets, in imitation of the fourteenth-century Ancient custom. A plaque still affixed in the interior, recalls Renato Fucini, who with his well-known wit had described in a short story his encounter with Aleardi, Prati and De Amicis, frequent visitors at that time.

PHARMACY SUPPLYING PRINCE VITTORIO EMANUELE

At the beginning of the 20th century the pharmacy became the supplier and trustee of Prince Vittorio Emanuele, Count of Turin, being able to use the Savoy badge that still appears in the windows of the door.

THE FLOOD OF 1966

The damage suffered by the flood of the Arno river in 1966 has completely ruined the antique furniture. They remain inside, the ancient Stadera scale of the early 1900s used to weigh newborns, and outside the white and green marble coating that frames the windows and the entrance door and the interior floor.
The fresco of the painter Alvaro Baragli is still visible at the pharmacy.
